In preparation for tonight, I spent minutes and minutes on Pinterest looking for ideas to try to help get in the mood and spend some memory making time with my sweet and fabulous child.
No, not really. My daughter wanted an activity one day and the other pin I was looking for meal ideas. But, they both work for today's holiday and can still be achieved by you!
Goblin Apples and Marshmellows:
I found this cute pin.
It looked easy and few materials needed. Those types of pins are my favorite. Let me state- I hate melting chocolate. But, I did learn about coconut oil to help melt the chocolate and keep it smooth. I can still never get the chocolate to cover smoothly. It is a definite art or I just really don't care that much. Also, washi tape is like cling wrap, it sticks to nothing but itself.
We also had leftover gigantic marshmellows from our annual bonfire and my daughter had the great idea to dunk those too.
Our final product:
Filters and black and white photos make these look awesome. We got creative and created more than just the skeletons. We had vampires, Frankenstein, ghost and Monsters Inc. For the faces we used the gel icing, while easy to use, it stays sticky and never dries. So when you need to transport and put in little baggies the faces go to crap. I did start putting a small amount of flour in the bag and shook it around to coat the sides. It helped reduce the sticking and added a little white film like smoke that actually added to the effect.
All in all, a success and my daughter has eaten a ton of apples. Score. Also a lot of marshmallows and white chocolate, maybe negative score. MOM OF THE YEAR!
Next is just an easy and good recipe that will be perfect to warm up to after trick or treating.
Crock pot Cream Cheese Chicken Chili:
Again, few ingredients and so easy to make. It can be found at CompleteRecipes.com
The recipe has you cooking it all day, but since I am now at home and realized mid-day I wanted it for dinner, I cooked it on high and it came out perfect. The first night we ate it over rice. I have eaten the leftovers on top of crushed tortilla chips and sprinkled a little shredded cheese. I like it better this way. Even ate it today. nomnomnom.
Yes. It is on a paper plate. Don't judge, it's one less dish I have to wash. Water conservation is what I call it.
Hope everyone has a great Halloween. Be safe out there!
